Qualifying for a variety of local and state-wide elective offices is underway through Friday, July 22.

As of Thursday afternoon, six candidates had qualified for Shreveport Mayor including: Tom Arceneaux, Mario Chavez, Melvin Slack, Tracy Mendels, Julius Romano and Lauren Ray Anderson.

Multiple candidates have qualified in the seven Shreveport City Council races. The most crowded is currently District G, the seat that term-limited councilman Jerry Bowman is vacating, that has (at present) four candidates who have qualified.

In Downtown’s District B, Mavice Thigpen and Gary Brooks have qualified. There is no incumbent in District B. In District A (that will include a small portion of downtown after the upcoming election), incumbent Tabatha Taylor and challenger Kinsey Montgomery have qualified to date.

The Primary Election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 8. Early voting will be conducted Oct. 25 through Nov. 1 (excluding Sunday, Oct. 30) from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Any run-offs will be decided on Saturday, Dec. 10. Louisiana has an ‘Open’ voting system, which means that any voter of any party affiliation can vote for any candidate, no matter their party affiliation.

1st term District B City Council representative LeVette Fuller announced in an interview on KEEL Radio this week that she will not be running for a second 4-year term in the fall. The surprising announcement comes just days before Qualifying for all fall races, which takes place Wed., July 20- Friday, July 22. All City Council races and the Shreveport Mayor are up for election. Here are all the races local voters will be deciding.

Fuller’s District B includes Highland, Stoner Hill and portions of several other neighborhoods, including Downtown Shreveport.

In addition to Fuller, District C’s John Nickelson has also announced that he will not run again.

District G’s Jerry Bowman is term-limited out; Tabatha Taylor (District A), Grayson Boucher (District D), Alan Jackson (District E), James Green (District F) are up for re-election.
